"Roman Zavarov of Berwyn, 20, took center stage with his silver sword and his colorful Nutcracker mask. As he sailed through his leaps and spinning-top turns, the whole studio quieted down to watch. A native of Kazakhstan in the former Soviet Union, Zavarov danced for a year with the Boston Ballet before deciding to continue his studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He also takes ballet lessons at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet, where he is usually surrounded by an admiring coterie of classmates."
